Apple Eyes OpenAI or Anthropic to Power Smarter Siri
Apple is in talks with OpenAI and Anthropic to supercharge Siri with advanced AI, possibly integrating Claude for smarter, cloud-based voice interactions.

Apple, a leader in consumer electronics, is taking steps to revitalize Siri, its virtual assistant, by exploring potential partnerships with AI giants OpenAI and Anthropic. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is in talks with both companies to integrate their large language models into Siri. This marks a significant shift for Apple, which has faced criticism for struggling to keep pace with competitors in the rapidly advancing AI landscape.

Discussions and Focus on Custom AI Models

The discussions are still in the early stages, but Apple’s main focus is to leverage the strengths of OpenAI or Anthropic’s AI models while adapting them to run on its cloud infrastructure. Apple aims to develop a version of Siri powered by advanced AI, utilizing its private cloud computing servers and top-tier Mac processors. Apple has asked both AI companies to train custom versions of their models that would suit the company's unique requirements, pushing the envelope on Siri’s capabilities.

Claude Emerges as the Front-Runner for Siri’s Upgrade

Although Apple is still evaluating multiple models—including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude—internal tests have reportedly shown that Claude, Anthropic’s model, is the best fit for Siri’s upgrade. This partnership, if finalized, would position Siri to compete more effectively with other leading AI models in the market, such as ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. However, integrating a third-party AI model into Siri’s interface will raise important considerations around user privacy and data protection, areas where Apple will need to ensure strict compliance.

Apple’s shift to collaborate with leading AI firms could be a pivotal move, helping Siri regain relevance and stay competitive in the evolving AI-driven landscape.
