Karnataka Launches AI Workforce Study for IT Policy 2025
The Karnataka government initiated an "AI workforce impact study" as part of its preparations for the new IT Policy 2025. The study aims to understand how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the job market and identify the necessary interventions to ensure a future-ready workforce. The state’s IT and Biotech Minister, Priyank Kharge, highlighted the importance of this study in shaping the upcoming policy, particularly in relation to the state’s flagship skilling initiative, NIPUNA Karnataka.
Karnataka’s Leadership in AI and Tech
Karnataka has become a hub for AI innovation, with Bengaluru ranked as the 5th largest AI and Big Data ecosystem globally. The state is home to over 1 lakh AI professionals, contributing significantly to India’s growing tech workforce. Minister Kharge emphasized that, while the state leads the AI revolution, the workforce must adapt to the growing influence of AI. This study is designed to ensure that Karnataka’s tech workforce, which now exceeds 1 million professionals, is equipped to thrive as AI reshapes various industries.

Industry Collaboration for Future Policies
The AI workforce impact study will gather input from industry leaders, HR heads, tech practitioners, and academia to analyze how AI is integrated into business functions and which job roles are most at risk of automation. The study is a key step toward designing strategic skilling programs and policies to protect and enhance Karnataka’s talent pool.
