Google Uses Gemini Nano AI to Boost Scam Protection

Google has been leveraging AI to combat online scams aimed at stealing money and personal data. In its latest report, Google revealed how its AI-powered scam detection systems have become 20 times more effective at blocking fraudulent pages in Search.
By analyzing vast amounts of web data, detecting coordinated scam campaigns, and staying ahead of emerging threats, Google ensures that Search results are legitimate. The company highlights a significant reduction in scams involving fake airline customer service impersonations, decreasing by over 80%.
Enhancing Protection in Chrome with Gemini Nano
Google has strengthened its Safe Browsing feature in Chrome with Gemini Nano, a large language model (LLM) powered by AI. This model provides Enhanced Protection mode, offering double the protection from phishing and other scams compared to the standard mode.
By analyzing risky websites on-device, Gemini Nano can identify new scams in real time, even those not seen before. This AI technology currently protect users from remote tech support scams, with plans to extend protection to Android devices and more types of scams.

Fighting Spam and Malicious Notificationn
Google has also tackled the issue of malicious notifications, often used by scam sites to bombard users. With the help of AI-powered warnings in Chrome on Android, users are alerted when a notification is flagged as potentially harmful. Users can either unsubscribe or view the blocked content, providing an additional layer of defense against deceptive notifications.
Google has expanded its scam-fighting efforts to include phone calls and text messages. The company’s new on-device AI-powered Scam Detection in Google Messages and Phone app helps Android users avoid sophisticated scams that often start innocently but evolve into dangerous situations. This move strengthens Google’s comprehensive approach to security.
